Title: Untitled
Statement:
For me, manikins represent society’s twisted projection of what the ideal figure should look like. I’ve been persuaded, more than once, to purchase clothing from slick looking displays featuring curated manikins only to be disappointed when trying the clothes on again at home. So I have things hemmed, taken in and adjusted to try and replicate that slick laid-back look that first attracted me. Like the manikins and the clothes they wear, I see humans also nipping, tucking, injecting, all in an effort to reach an ideal body image.
In this piece I have attempted to portray these ideas by treating the manikin much like a potato. By cutting, hollowing and coring out the defects, much like a cook would do, I have begun the never-ending journey towards perfection.
